Staff Meeting Summary
Director Ken Fugal shared the following:
It’s Not About Me
Let’s talk about me- well, actually you.
If this time and work is all about you, you would be very poor in helping others. I recently had an experience to illustrate this:
I was a patron doing ordinances. The worker assisting was irritating me because he was demanding and nit picking (or at least I thought so). I was getting mad. Then it hit me- it’s not about me at all. It’s all about the person I was being proxy for. That’s why I was there at the Temple.
The Savior’s life was not about Him. It was all about others. That is why you and I are doing this work: for the patrons that come, and for our ancestors who have gone on ahead of us.
Assistant Director, Sharlene Gardner, shared information about what is happening in her ward, Lakeview 5th, with the challenge to take a name to the Temple:
There is a poster that displays shaded areas that represent ward members who have reserved names for the Temple.
Sharlene encouraged us, as consultants, to take the initiative. Go up to ward members individually and ask, have you found your name yet? Would you like some help? Can we set a date to work together?
Here are some of the things Sharlene uses with her ward members:

3. Moms and Tots
We are starting our Moms and Tots class again on October 19. This is a monthly class and we are looking for help. Please talk with Joy Stubbs if you or anyone you know might be interested. The helper need not be a staff member or someone who is proficient in family history. They would work with the children using prewritten lesson plans while the staff works with the moms.
1. Working with Patrons- Pat Cuthbert
Pat asked how we as staff members have used the summer, when we are not as busy with patrons, to improve our skills. Answers included:
Working on my own family tree.
Going to classes offered at the Center and at various conferences.
Watching over another staff members shoulder when they are helping a patron with something I don’t know how to do.
Learning to index.
2. Tech Tips- Don Kimball
Don introduced the new abbreviated Sign In/Out. As we do not have to provide as much information in our monthly reports to the Church, we have tailored the questions on the Sign In/Out to fit the information we need. If you have any difficulties with the new system please email Don directly at email@example.com.
3. Family Tree Details Page- Jeanne Gunnell
Jeanne went over all of the information, including the new messaging system, on the details page of an individual in FamilySearch Family Tree.
