2014 Center Objectives

As staff and directors of the Sunset Heights Multi-Stake Family History Center, we continually strive to improve our service to patrons and priesthood leaders in the work of salvation. We have identified the following areas of focus for the coming year. We ask for your help in moving forward with these efforts. Note especially those in red.

Family History Center 2014 Objectives

Supporting Priesthood Efforts

1. Work through the high council representatives in each of the four stakes to:

  • Keep the family history center properly staffed
  • Address the concerns and needs of the stakes using family history resources
  • Encourage each ward in the four stakes to have family history put on the ward council agendas. Track progress of this at each Coordinating Council Meeting

2. Work with ward missionaries and priesthood leaders to assist less active, new members, investigators and prospective missionaries with family history.

  • FHC staff will talk with fulltime missionaries who come into the Center and invite them to bring in new members, investigators and others they are working with to the Family History Center.
  • Ward mission leaders will be contacted and made aware that ward family history consultants and the Family History Center are available to work with less actives, new members and investigators in regard to family history.

3. Provide youth groups with programs tailored to their needs. (For example: introduction to family history, finding pioneer ancestors, indexing, names for Temple work, boy scout merit badge, etc.)

Working with Patrons to have a Positive Family History Experience

4. Improve the one-on-one patron experience by training staff members to:

  • Focus on patrons having positive experience
  • Understand how to tailor the patron experience to fit the needs for coming to the Center
  • Ask what the patron wants to accomplish and then to listen to their response
  • Find ways to engage the patron before going to the computer
  • Use a “let’s try it and find out” approach

5. Provide an inviting environment for patrons by:

  • Keeping the rooms clean and free of clutter
  • Keeping the desktop in standard form and programs up to date with the latest changes

Having Effective Staff Training

6. Have meaningful staff meetings that teach staff to become proficient and keep current on FamilySearch, Family Tree, Ancestry and other sites that will help them to better help patrons and themselves in doing family history.

7. Incorporate a training segment at each staff meeting on improving the patron experience, using information from Family History Center Operations guide, pages 11-14.

Open Hours Monday, Thursday and Friday: 10 am to 4 pm Tuesday and Wednesday: 10 am to 4 pm and 6:30 pm to 9 pm
